License Your Dog

All dogs living in the City of Boulder must be licensed. For your convenience, the City offers a couple of options for dog licensing:

step

Complete the registration form

First time licenses require you to provide basic details about your dog as well as your contact information. This not only allows us to ship you your dog's tag, it’s also used to reunite you with your dog if they are ever lost.

You will be required to pay a fee for each of your dogs' licenses. Please see the fee schedule below.

Category Fee
Sterilized Dog $15.00
Intact Dog $30.00
Replacement Tag $2.00

We only accept check or money order by mail. If you are visiting one of our vendor locations you may pay by cash, check or money order. Please make checks payable to the City of Boulder.

Mail your form to (proof of rabies certification must be included):

The Boulder Police Department
1805 33rd St., Boulder, CO, 80301

OR drop it off at the Police Department.

After your registration and payment has been received and processed our records will be updated to reflect an active license status and your tags will be shipped within one business day from being entered in our system.

It is important to note that mailed applications are not always entered into our system immediately and this will often delay the shipment of your dog's tag. If you would like to ensure your dog's license application is processed right away please license online, at a vendor location, or by phone.

You will be sent an email with a receipt and link to activate your online account where you can upload more information about your dog. If you do not have an email your activation code will be mailed to you along with your dog's tag. Please note that you will need a valid email to setup your online DocuPet profile.
